What I work on with students
Each student I work with has different needs. Below are my main areas of expertise:
Mathematics
I help students build understanding at all levels of mathematics through AP Calculus AB. My approach is to build mastery of math concepts rather than memorizing procedures. Many students struggle in math when they encounter material that builds on a previous concept that they never quite mastered. I help students identify gaps and rebuild those foundations. My goal is genuine comprehension–not just getting through tonight’s problem set.
Study Skills
Many students have poor study strategies that don’t work even if they put in the hours. This becomes so discouraging that they stop giving their best effort. I work with students to help them understand what brain science has taught us about how we best learn and remember, and then practice these new skills until they become habits. Students learn how to prepare for exams effectively, how to retain material longterm, how to study math, science and reading differently, and how to use AI tools responsibly without outsourcing their thinking.
SAT and ACT Preparation
Standardized test prep is most effective when it’s strategic and individualized. I work with students to understand how these tests are designed and to recognize recurring patterns. I encourage students to practice under realistic conditions, and then we review their mistakes deeply and deliberately so students learn from them in a way that improves scores—and also makes students more precise, confident thinkers.
College Essay Coaching
The college essay is one of the most important–and most stressful–parts of the application process. I help students start with what’s most important–a confident understanding of what they have to offer a school and how to craft an essay in which that shines through. From there I support students in drafting and revising a few authentic essays so they can choose their best one.
Content Support across Subjects
For students who need help genuinely mastering the material—not just getting through the assignment—I work across all high school subject areas with a focus on helping students understand underlying concepts. After 20 years of working with high school students across every subject area, I have deep familiarity with the curriculum and know where students commonly get tripped up. If a student is motivated to learn but struggling with the material, I can almost certainly help.
Who I Work With
Is this the right fit?
I work with students from middle school through college. I’m at my best with a student who wants to understand the material, not just get through the assignment.
